We’re talking about one of the most beautiful villages in all of Sicily and it can be a great option for spending a relaxing and surprising weekend in any season.
First of all, when you catch sight of it from afar, you’ll be immediately struck by its location, as the town is perfectly nestled between the Tyrrhenian Sea and an imposing cliff, the majestic Rocca di Cefalù. Every corner of this beautiful village manages to give a true emotion, especially when the sky turns orange and the sun plunges into the sea.
That’s why in our article today, we want to propose a perfect itinerary for our three-day vacation in Cefalù, perhaps in late June when the crowds of tourists aren’t too overwhelming and you can appreciate the essence of the medieval village overlooking the sea.
Let’s start right away with the first day, when a visit to the Cefalù Promenade is definitely a must. It’s one of the most beloved areas, and we recommend starting from here and gradually making your way towards the historic center. Of course, we suggest returning here to admire the sunset and be absolutely breathless from the extraordinary beauty of the colors.
On this day, you can’t miss the medieval washhouse, an ancient public laundry fed by the Cefalino River. It’s hidden at the bottom of a staircase and hosts the ancient basins where housewives used to wash clothes, and it’s a place accessible at no cost.
What to see in Cefalù in three days of vacation?
During the second day, we recommend visiting the Cefalù Cathedral, a truly ancient cathedral of Norman origin, as it was founded in the time of Roger II. It is said that it was built following the religious vow of the sovereign when he survived a shipwreck.
Inside, the cathedral houses splendid Byzantine mosaics, including the Christ Pantocrator, which will surely capture your attention. Entrance to the cathedral is also free, while a fee is required to visit the towers and the cloister, which is one of the oldest in Sicily.
Definitely not to be missed is a visit to the Rocca di Cefalù, from which you can enjoy a stunning view. In this case, there is an entrance fee (currently, the ticket costs only five euros); the path requires some effort as you have to walk uphill, so we recommend wearing trekking shoes with non-slip soles.
On the third day, we recommend spending it wandering the streets of the center and by the sea, perhaps enjoying typical local dishes and savoring a true moment of relaxation with a sunset aperitif on the beach. In this regard, look for the Bastione di Capo Marchiafava and admire the view from this ancient and suggestive terrace.
