After talking many times about the beautiful town of Cefalů, we now want to give some attention to the villages near Cefalů that you can visit during your vacation to discover new places and traditions. First of all, we can say that the entire area of Cefalů and the Madonie Park is particularly rich in attractions, so get ready for a lot of excitement.
There are numerous and fascinating villages that dot the entire area, made special by the magnificent and imposing nature of the Nebrodi Park and the proximity of the turquoise and clear sea of the Cefalů coast, which can often be seen even from some villages located more inland.
Let’s start with Gangi, known as the “gem of the firmament” due to the numerous artistic and monumental works it houses and the characteristic low stone houses that cling to narrow and winding alleys.
Gangi, often named “the most beautiful village in Italy,” has always been a delightful medieval village perched on the top of Mount Marrone. Here, you can admire the Mother Church of San Nicolň, the Ventimiglia Castle, and the Bongiorno Palace. If you find yourself in Gangi, then you should continue a bit to reach the two Petralias, Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottana, two sister towns with a common origin. Petralia Soprana, the highest village in the Madonie, has been called the “masterpiece mountain” for its splendid panoramas and viewpoints stretching from Etna to the sea.
Petralia Sottana, on the other hand, is a small and charming village with a medieval urban layout rich in monuments, works of art, and an authentic sculptural heritage. One of the attractions most loved by tourists is “La Casa du Currivu,” the narrowest house in the world, which was intentionally built to annoy a neighbor across the street.
Which villages near Cefalů are worth visiting?
Another wonderful village in the Madonie area that we highly recommend visiting is Castelbuono. This town is home to the magnificent Ventimiglia Castle, which leads to the four most important churches, all lined up in a perfect row when viewed from above.
This town is also home to the most famous pastry shop in all of Sicily, and we are talking about Bar-Pasticceria Fiasconaro, particularly known and loved for its delicious panettone that delights palates during the Christmas holidays. This bar has become a must-visit for numerous tourists from all over the world who come to taste these special delicacies.
Finally, we suggest visiting the beautiful village of Polizzi Generosa, also known as the village of the Abies Nebrodensis. This is a true botanical rarity that has become a symbol of Sicily, housing works of considerable artistic value in its many churches. Here, it is interesting to visit the churches as well as the characteristic museum, which offers an exhibition path designed through a stunning sensory journey in the five environments that include the forest.
