The city is characterized by its location in the Conca d’Oro, at the foot of Mount Pellegrino. It is situated in Punta Raisi, precisely 35 kilometers from Palermo, and in 2022 it became the third busiest airport in Southern Italy for passenger traffic, following Naples and Catania, and the ninth busiest internationally. The airport was named in memory of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, the two magistrates killed by the mafia in 1992.
