Today we’re going to discover Burger King so you know where to find them during a vacation in Catania. Burger King, also known as Hungry Jack’s in Australia, is an American fast-food chain headquartered in Florida in Miami-Dade County.
The company was founded in 1953 as Insta-Burger King, although it later faced financial difficulties and was bought by David Edgerton and James McLamore, who renamed it “Burger King” a few years later. Over the next half-century, the company changed hands four times, and its third group of owners took it public in 2002.
At the end of 2010, in a deal worth $3.26 billion, a Brazilian group acquired a majority stake in the company, and the new owners then began restructuring the company to turn its fortunes around, merging it with the Canadian donut chain Tim Hortons.
Historically, Burger King has always been the second-largest fast-food chain in the USA in terms of size, directly behind McDonald’s. This chain has a long-standing presence in US military bases and installations around the world, thanks to an agreement signed in 1980.
And although other chains have outlets on US bases, there is always a BK restaurant in every base overseas, with the difference that within the United States, the Navy and the Marines have a contract with the rival McDonald’s, effectively cutting Burger King out of the business.
As for the Burger King logo, it first appeared in 1968 and was subsequently revised in 1994, while an additional version was introduced in 1999. However, many restaurants adopted signs with the new logo only starting in 2002. The logo, resembling a tasty hamburger, features the restaurant name written in red and neatly arranged on two lines, squeezed between the two halves of a bun to simulate a sandwich.
What’s new about Burger King in Catania?
As part of a much larger redevelopment of the area around Piazza Santa Maria di Gesù, we know that a new Burger King restaurant was inaugurated on February 14th inside the building that previously housed a famous and historic bowling alley.
This is, moreover, the second opening within the Catania territory, after the previous one (which actually didn’t have much success) on Viale Artale Alagona. The structure, which employed 25 people, is characterized by large windows overlooking the outdoor area and has been invaded by students and burger lovers.
This new structure will also be particularly suitable for children, as there is a beautiful interactive play area called ‘Play King‘ for the little ones. Among the culinary offerings of this new opening, we find grilled meat, fresh vegetables cut multiple times a day, and endless sauces to accompany any sandwich or snack.
The kitchen staff is also highly trained and immediately ready to provide quality service to ensure a product prepared to the highest standards of quality. Additionally, numerous offers are available every week, which can be accessed simply by downloading the Burger King app on your mobile phone.
