In today’s article, we want to talk about Capo Rossello in Agrigento, a beautiful coastal town in Realmonte located just about 1.8 km away. Nestled within the Bay of Capo Rossello, this small inhabited center is set in a remarkably scenic environment, bounded to the north by the Costabianca arch and to the west by Capo Rossello itself. To the east, it extends along the coastline, culminating in the stunning backdrop of the Scala dei Turchi, while to the south, it opens onto the sea with a modest yet well-kept beach.

The beach of Capo Rossello, besides the clarity of its waters, is characterized by spectacular golden sand that is very fine. Dominating the beach is Monte Rossello, which, in addition to representing millennia of history, has been home to one of the most important lighthouses on the Sicilian coast for many years.
The Capo Rossello Lighthouse, known as the “Third-order Lighthouse,” as indicated on the exterior structure of the building, sits on a cliff 95 meters above sea level. The building, topped by a beautiful lantern, once housed the guardian and his family, as well as a warehouse and a well for rainwater. This characteristic structure, owned by the State, was activated in 1859 and later deactivated and abandoned.
The old lighthouse not only illuminated the sea but also the inhabited center of Realmonte, especially the “Carricacina” square. Subsequently, a more modern and electronic lighthouse was built next to the old one, which is periodically checked and maintained.
