San Leone is a district and a main seaside resort of Agrigento, situated on the Akragas point, near the mouth of the Akragas river. In some topographical documents dating back to the 16th century, the former fief of Maddalusa is referred to as La Mendolosa, suggesting that this area was once cultivated with almond trees.
It is a seaside locality and an excellent bathing destination due to its splendid tranquility. In the evenings, you can enjoy delightful nights sipping a good drink by the sea, perhaps listening to beautiful music in the company of friends. But what are the nearby places of interest in this area?
The first place is Villa Pertini, characterized by a beautiful fountain and extraordinary contemporary art sculptures, along with the Tower of Santo Lio, located on the Montelusa hill in the Forgia district, now completely integrated into an agricultural estate. Another interesting site is Villa Gioenina, which overlooks the river’s mouth and was established in the first half of the 18th century.
